Smart Design.

For Smart People.

Hello (Again) World!

This is my first post in over a year. Saying that makes me… Well, let's just say it's not something I'm particularly happy about.

However, I've been busy, and I have a lot of exciting news!

If you don't mind, let's take a second to go over everything that's changed in the last year.

1. This Is No Longer a One-Man Show

This is easily my favorite item of news: my company grew so much last year that I'm now working with an excellent team of designers and developers from all over the world.

In alphabetical order, they are:

Drew Douglass (Fargo, North Dakota, USA)

Drew started out helping me with back-end development for client projects, and has since moved into a role where he is helping me with a really big project that I'm not quite ready to announce yet. He's also the recipient of a bi-weekly phone call where we get all of the geek out of our systems so we can interact normally with the rest of the population.

You may know Drew from his work on Dev-Tips or, more recently, Envato.

Rob MacKay (Salford, England, UK)

Rob and I have known each other for quite a while through Twitter (especially DCTH and Twitter's bloodiest [read: syrupiest] war: the #BreakfastRevolution), and toward the end of 2010 he started working with us on some client projects. He's been a great addition to the team.

Henry Moran (Los Angeles, California, USA)

Henry has been designing the crap out of sites for us for quite a while now, and doing a great job. He's also working for Gogii (the folks behind textPlus).

Tom Sturge (Kent, England, UK)

Tom is a developer who was very relieved when we brought another British guy on because finally someone would understand his jokes and various Britishisms.

Make sure you check out the official bios to learn a little more about this incredibly talented group of guys.

2. Our Name Has Changed

For anyone who isn't familiar, up until this year I've operated under the business name Ennui Design. However, all of my clients thought of Ennui Design less as a company and more as just me. With the growth of the company and the awesome new team, we felt it was a good decision to switch up the branding and change the name altogether.

We are now, officially, Copter Labs. And we have a sweet new logo:

Copter Labs

Not to mention, pretty much everyone mispronounced and/or misspelled "ennui." That's what I get for thinking I was the smartest 17-year-old ever and picking obscure words I stole from the French as a moniker.

3. Tom and I Are Presenting at SXSWi 2011

Tom and I have been selected to give a presentation on running small, internationally distributed businesses. It's called "I've Never Met My Co-Workers" and is tentatively slotted to take place on the first day of SXSWi.

We're really excited, and we'd love to hear your thoughts and questions on the subject.

4. We Redesigned the Site

What do you mean, you didn't notice?

5. We're Back on the Blogging Grind!

With renewed vigor, we're going to be posting regularly on the Copter Labs blog.

A Few Other Things

Please help us bug-hunt on the new site — we spent a lot of long hours getting it ready, and we're sure that a few things will probably pop up here and there.

Please follow the new @CopterLabs Twitter account and like us on Facebook. Update your RSS feeds (if you're old-school) from the Ennui Design feed to the new Copter Labs RSS feed. And if you like what you see, help us spread the word!

Got something to say? Did you miss me? Let me know in the comments!
